The night wasn't it's normal, serene self. Something about it had a haunting quality. The fact it was utterly cloudless, yet seem to let loose a rain of thunder whenever he was close to sleep .. Both foreboding and annoying. Interesting how those two seem to compliment one another so well. Drawn from his restless night, Sebastian, who'd had some degree of drama in life .. Knew, something about tonight was going to be full of it. Despite himself he didn't fish his gun from the nearby draw. Even when Amelia, his beloved Red, was obviously missing in action -- the tell being the fact she wasn't safely snuggled by his side. Calloused hands ran a pair of streaks over his sleep wrought face, that disposition went from haggard to alert in an instant. This place, Las Vegas, wasn't so bad. Sin City was a haven for sinners pretending to be Saints. Ideal for our cryptic Sebastian Whisper, the masked man wearing a veil over deception. Still, manipulation aside, he was sincerely worried as he prowled from their shared, warm bed, into the frigid, lingering living room, knowing well to expect mayhem in one form or the other.

`` Red, babe? .. Where are you? ``

That Voodoo You Do [09 Nov 2007|12:12am]

iyesha_naki
(might be nice if I actually posted this in the right place)

Who: EVERYONE
When: November 1st.
Where:: The Red Loa
Why: Opening up shop.

As much as the Swamp Rat loved Halloween, it wasn't something she often celebrate, if at all, and to celebrate it in a city so far away from home seemed just...strange. She wanted the huge parties in the streets, ones that rivaled the ones people would see during Mardi Gras. Not saying that the parties in Vegas weren't as large, it just didn't have the same feel. Still, she tried to have as much fun as she could, and decided to open up the shop the next night for those that were still on that Halloween high.

She had redesigned the backroom which still faintly smelled like paint beneath the intoxicating haze of Dragon's Blood. The walls were painted a deep purple and draped with tapestries or gauzy cloth of all sorts of colors. She didn't want the surroundings to be dreary and downtrodden, but still have that mystical feel to it. Playing it up for the audience.

Throwing the last pillow randomly over the floor, she hooked back the beads that were draped over the door and settled down with a glass of herbal tea. The Red Loa was again open for business, and she was hoping that her customers were more corporeal this time. The night of the public reading was still fresh in her mind.

Sweetest Sin and the Cardio Aftermath [10 Sep 2007|01:07pm]

brainybadass
The Who : Stephanie Mai and [OPEN]
The Where : Canyon Gate Country Club
The When : Sunday, September 9th {A little back-dating here}
The Howcome : 'Best of the Best' tasting. Sampling of chef delicacies from around Las Vegas at the Hermit's generosity. Some work involved, of course, but mainly there's nothing on Ms. Mai's menu but sinful indulgence.

So the Hermit had come out of his coccoon long enough to extend the free passes to his staff for a bit of extravagence on his personal dime. Taste-testing the best Vegas had to offer in the way of chefs who specilized in everything from hors d'houerves right up to desserts wasn't such a hard way to spend an evening. Since the tickets were only for those who could actually come and claim them, Stephanie stashed an extra, and trying to make good with the man she owed money to, she deposited one for Felix in that little mailbox outside his 'business'. Hell, since the redhead's man had left a cash cow deposit on her conscience in hopes she'd play Nancy Drew with the Shark, why not make it easier for the two to run into each other 'accidentally' by putting them in the same place at the same or roughly, the same time.

The Cat Came Back [09 Sep 2007|01:12pm]

iyesha_naki
Who: Iyesha Naki, Felix Worth.
When: September 8th, 2007
Where: The Red Loa.
Why: Felix catches up to Iyesha in her shop, and leaves with an interesting gift.

She knew it was too soon in the game to take some time away, but she truly missed her family. There were only a few times when she left home, and never was it as far as Vegas. It could've been on the other side of the world for how it felt.

The flight seemed overly long, as well as the taxi ride to The Mystique, but once she got into her room she began to unwind. A day at the spa helped with that as well. That same night, she opened up Loa, determined not to let her homesickness get the best of her again.

Sitting down with her third cilent of the night, she smoothed her fingers over the cards she had set out for her, collecting them. Usually she didn't do the card tricks, but these people tended to get a kick out of it, especially when she was dead on about things. Gently patting the hand of Mrs. Norris, still trembling over the weight of the younger woman's words, she helped her to her feet and lead her to the shop's proper, now much cleaner and organized, heavily scented with the light spice of sandalwood.

"You c'mon back an' see me again soon, missus. Shops always open for ya, y'know dat." Giving the woman a soft smile, she lifted her hand in a farewell, then returned to the back room to flop on the couch. Tucking the toes of her bare feet beneath a silky and velvet pillow, she slouched down against the arm and collected her warm tea while snagging her magazine to pick up where she had left off.

His face wasn't supposed to be seen darkening the door of the Mystique and for good reason.  )

Part of the Job [05 Sep 2007|12:55pm]

brainybadass

Who: Stephanie, Sebastien, and Kuriel
When:
Wednesday, September 5th
Where:
 Mystique Lobby
Why:
Little boys (and big boys too) need places to go and things to do to keep themselves occupied. So, who better to go to for the best places in Vegas for kids of all ages than the Hospitality Manager.

The Bossman might not have sent over that contract she'd told him she wanted, but that didn't mean the work wasn't still rolling steadily off the shoulders of the concierge, and the front desk staff and landing smack-down on Steph's desk in the office.

She'd made her rounds earlier, and was dog-tired. Rockstars were gone (finally), the dummies with their grabby hands had left Sunday night and into Monday, and the newlyweds she'd had one bellhop catering to all weekend had checked out, with smiles on their faces, and Steph could have sworn the woman was now walking bow-legged. She stretched slowly, and stopped, setting a hand along the wall just outside the little lounge on the first floor, and lifted her leg to adjust the strap on her heel.

She wasn't dressed in the glitz of the 20s, but more practical business wear, or at least what she considered practical. And that very ensemble's skirt was dragging up legs too long to be on an Asian, but there they were none-the-less.

'Damn I want a drink.'  )

Ventriloquists // Hotel/Casino activites and prep [30 Aug 2007|06:43pm]

brainybadass

Who: Stephanie Mai, Mystique staff, and OPEN
When:
Monday - Thursday afternoon [ Prep for convention arrival]
Where:
Casino & Hotel wide
Why:
Handed a bet by the Hermit himself, the Hospitality Ace has her hands already full -- until she arrives at the Mystique and learns about the convention that's coming into the Mystique on Thursday and who will be there through the weekend.  She, and the staff, have their work cut out for them as they prepare for everything - posthaste.

Stephanie had it handed to her on a anything but a silver platter when she arrived first thing Monday morning to begin work on the list of three she was supposed to handle in order to earn her spurs and claim the title Ace of Hospitality. Two of the three would be fairly easy, but the third, the rock band coming in, was going to take some work. Then, to top it all off, Monday at lunch, she was given the bad news - a convention had called in and wanted to book the Mystique as its meeting place. And to make matters worse it was a ventriloquism convention. Perfect.

Stephanie started out with calls to local furniture places, the big companies who could fill the orders she needed for what the Mystique didn't already have on hand, and then, she sent out two of the more tenured staff to hit the flea markets. Anything dated. Vintage looking for the era, and that wouldn't break the bank on the budget she'd set for herself and for the suite of rooms that were being prepared for the rock band. While she sent others off scurrying to prep the newlywed room, and another in search of the metal tables and chairs she needed pronto, the Ace hit the catering menus she had in stock aplenty from her days in California, and from her father's own restaurant.

A menu selected after an hour of grueling and grunting, she had it faxed to a local company with a fantastic reputation, and then she headed off for the convention areas to start sketching out the layout for the place. Everything wooden was being replaced with metal, and faux plastic; not because the ventriloquists would be threats to the finer furnishings, but because they might, and some did, take offense to large displays of wood that might hurt their counterparts (read 'dummies') feelings.

The banquet room would be set up for their meet and greet with a simple snack menu of cheeses, crackers, finger sandwiches and other finger foods of simple design, while the layout itself would offer plenty of room and lots of smaller stools and tables for the men and women to practice their craft. The stage was set off along one far wall, where they could easily get up, and there was no loose wiring issues to deal with, or micstands that would be too cumbersome and hard for the performers to maneuver around their puppets.

The weekend was layed out in extravagant detail, with the dinner Saturday night before the performance of the main attraction, Mister Dunham, being catered by one of the gourmet restaurants all the way from the strip. She knew the manager of the establishment through various acquaintances, and had even secured a fairly generous cut in the usual catering fees from both the catering service, as well as the chef himself. Ms. Mai has also set up and ensured there would be plenty of additional stools setforth about the casino should the performers feel the need to take their 'art' with them to the gambling tables.

Inside each room set aside for the convention, there would be gift baskets awaiting their arrival on Thursday that had things both for the performers, as well as cleaning and care-taking supplies from a reputable supplier in the puppetry industry depending on the style and manner of common puppet used by each visitor to the convention (which had taken some finagling to get from the head of the convention, but with enough finesse and assurances it was for a good cause, anything is possible).

Thursday afternoon, and into the evening, there were tables set up along the wall of the convention's main banquet room where the arrivals could register and gather their information for the convention. Upon check-up into the Mystique itself, their bags were handled by the assigned bellhops, and taken straight-away to their rooms, to enable the visitors to go straight for the convention activites.

The most intricate part had been getting the sound wiring right for the larger hall where the convention goers would be spending a majority of their time in workshops and performance clinics. She'd had to call in at least two favors with major sound technicians, and also sent them up to Mic to see if he needed anything for the Club to prepare for the performance of Jeff Dunham on Saturday night. Call it making friendly with another on the Aces side of life, and taking a little off the man who'd been wrangling things alone for awhile, or so she had come to learn.

Longterm Negotiations [19 Aug 2007|03:39pm]

brainybadass
Who: Stephanie Mai & Felix Worth
When: August 19th || Afternoon
Where: Worth Enterprises
Why: Needing to get a junkie off her back, Stephanie takes up the Shark's invitation to see him about a possible loan.

Worth Enterprises was not located within Vegas' business district as one might have thought it would be. The name certainly gave certain illusions of grandeur.  Rather it occupied the second floor atop what had once been a 24 hour grocery.  It was now a new age store that burned incense on a regular basis, with beads in the doorway and tarot decks inside.  There was only one indication that Felix's 'offices' were located upstairs that was a small, discreet plaque on the brick wall near the set of stairs that ran beside the door to the shop below. It read 'Worth Enterprises Felix Worth, Esq. Upstairs, Suite 200'.  Anyone who happened to walk up those stairs would find that there was no other door...one and one only with another small plaque and '200' in gold lettering, along with a paperclock, letting you know if the proprietor was in or out.  This time it read that the one inside was in.  Course even if you were expected, there was no guarantee that Felix would see you.  He was a man given to many moods, always had been, and much more as of late.

Music from an Empty Room [16 Aug 2007|04:45pm]

evelyn_fay

Who:  'Mic' Legend and Evelyn Fay

Where:  The stage of the rooftop club

When:  Friday, August 17th, after midnight.

Why:  Needing the solace of his club when it's empty and his piano, Mic wanders up only to find that it isn't so empty afterall.  Restless and weary of wandering, Fay's settled herself at the instrument, unaware that there's at least one at the Mystique who can see her.

After expecting to be alone to play, but catching Fay seated at his piano, unable to touch the keys but humming what's been wrapped around her head, he approaches her.  He didn't mean to be rude, but she couldn't be in here...the club was locked and off limits after hours.

Startled and shocked at being seen, let alone heard, Fay nearly decides to leave...but the enticement of a real conversation urges her to stay.  Mic takes a seat behind the piano and picks up the very song she had been humming.  Admiring the man's smooth and warm voice, Fay lends her own to his for a late-night duet....

Who:  Tesla and Felix

Where:  The Mystique Casino, main floor

When:  Friday, August 10th

Why:  During the Blackjack tournament, Felix makes the mistake of mentioning Tesla's unfortunate 'accident'...and the illusionist lets him know exactly how he feels.

Delicately featured he might be, but that hit coupled with the murderous glare he was giving him proved him to be anything but. He didn't care to think of the consequences, didn't care about them, all he wanted was to hit him again, maybe feel his nose break beneath his fist. By the way he strode up to him, it appeared as if he was going to do it again...
